Give Claude live web search, extraction, crawling, and research. In Claude Code, install the official Tavily plugin, which adds skills that run the Tavily CLI. In claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and Cowork, connect the Tavily connector, which adds Tavily’s MCP tools.

Install the plugin

Paste the copied command into your terminal. Or, inside Claude Code, run:

/plugin marketplace add tavily-ai/skills
/plugin install tavily@tavily-plugins

The plugin installs Tavily’s skills for you.

Try it

Start a new session (or run /reload-plugins), then ask naturally or call a skill directly:

Connect the MCP server instead

Add Tavily’s hosted MCP server for all your projects:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user tavily https://mcp.tavily.com/mcp/

Then run /mcp, select tavily, and sign in. If you already connected Tavily on claude.ai, Claude Code can use that connector when you sign in with the same account.To skip OAuth, add --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TAVILY_API_KEY". For limited keyless access, use --header "X-Tavily-Access-Mode: keyless".

Run the MCP server locally

Requires Node.js 20+ and a Tavily API key:

claude mcp add --scope user tavily-local -e TAVILY_API_KEY=YOUR_TAVILY_API_KEY -- npx -y tavily-mcp@latest

Run /mcp to confirm tavily-local is connected.

Install the skills without the plugin

With the CLI installed and signed in, add the Agent Skills to your project:

npx skills add tavily-ai/skills --skill '*' --agent claude-code

Start a new session to load them. Add --global to install them for all projects.

Connect Tavily

Or open Customize → Connectors and find Tavily. Click Connect and sign in to Tavily. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner must first add the connector for the organization.

Set tool permissions

Under Tool permissions, choose Always allow, Needs approval, or Blocked for each tool. Always allow skips approval prompts; it doesn’t force Claude to use Tavily.

Organization setup

On Team and Enterprise plans, adding the connector for the organization makes it available to members, but does not share the Owner’s Tavily sign-in. Choose how members authenticate:

Each member signs in to Tavily (OAuth)

As an Owner or Primary Owner, open Organization settings → Connectors.
Select Browse connectors, find Tavily, and click Add to your team.
Each member opens Customize → Connectors → Tavily → Connect and signs in to Tavily.

To choose which Tavily key OAuth requests use, name it mcp_auth_default. See API key selection for OAuth.

Use a custom connector so members use a central Tavily key without their own Tavily accounts. Requests use that key’s credits and limits.

Copy the team or workspace API key from the Tavily dashboard.
As an Owner, open Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom (choose Web if prompted).
Name it, for example Tavily (team key), and set the server URL to https://mcp.tavily.com/mcp.
Select No sign-in. Under Request headers, add Authorization with the value Bearer tvly-YOUR_TEAM_API_KEY, then save.
Each member selects Tavily (team key) under Customize → Connectors, clicks Connect once, and enables it in chats.

No Request headers option? Anthropic limits it to some organizations. If your dialog offers No sign-in, use this URL instead and treat it as a secret:

https://mcp.tavily.com/mcp/?tavilyApiKey=tvly-YOUR_TEAM_API_KEY

If the dialog has neither option, use OAuth or ask your Claude admin. Authentication settings can’t be edited after creation, so to change an existing connector, remove it and add it again. See Anthropic’s authentication settings.

What about Enterprise-managed authorization?

Enterprise-managed authorization provisions access through an identity provider with tokens tied to each member, not a shared key. Tavily isn’t currently a supported connector for it; use the shared-key setup instead.

Verify with a member account: enable the connector and ask Claude to search with Tavily. For a shared key, confirm the call succeeds without a Tavily sign-in and that usage lands on the intended account or workspace.

The connector also includes tavily_skill, which finds skills for your agent. In Claude Code, the plugin offers the same capabilities as skills, such as /tavily:tavily-search and /tavily:tavily-research.
